"CBS Sports" said : NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers trying to land Pacers star Paul George

Los Angeles' best-case scenario would be getting him in free agency without having to surrender any of its young talent. George had a taste of postseason success a few years ago, making the conference finals with the Pacers in 2013 and 2014. If I was a Lakers fan, I might be hoping that Indiana decides not to trade George, and that its plan of building around him continues to fall short of the front office's hopes. Teams trading for George run the risk of losing the four-time All-Star to a Lakers franchise that will have the salary-cap space to sign him in 2018. Here's my question about all of this: If George is so fixated on competing for a title, why are the rebuilding Lakers his preferred choice?

Considering the low bar set with the Pelicans deal, any number of other trade offers could fit Divac's own criteria. The Wizards are third in the East and could use a player like Williams to shore up their second unit. So the Lakers reportedly didn't land a superstar frontcourt player because they didn't want to move the No. Washington has shown an inclination to give up a future draft pick – a first round pick – potentially even in this draft to get at a veteran who may even turn out to be a rental for them. The Lakers could try to deal Williams for a first-rounder, easing some of the concerns of losing their protected pick to the Sixers while simultaneously giving them a better chance of retaining said pick.

Share this:TweetIf you haven't heard by now, the Sacramento Kings traded All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday. In a loaded draft class, the Lakers should look to add another young star and build around their youth. The Kings received Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2017 second-round pick, but it appears their initial aim was much higher.
