DeMarcus Cousins trade reaction edition
Should the Heat trade or commit to James Johnson and is this the Heat's team going forward? On the latest Miami Heat mailbag: Did Pat Riley blow an opportunity to trade for DeMarcus Cousins? — End of rant —And yet I don't think the Heat could have offered even 25 cents. Once again: BUDDY HIELD, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, one future first-round pick & one future second for DeMarcus Cousins, sources say — Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) February 20, 2017I really don't mind the players. Woah, boy:Why on Earth do you think you have to trade away a franchise player for nothing just to keep your pick?
Cousins, Davis and Holiday are clearly the core, and everybody around the soon-to-be free agent will be trying to make him feel wanted. Now that the Pelicans have DeMarcus Cousins, though, it appears that is no longer under consideration, via ESPN's Justin Verrier:In case it needs to be said: Sources say a Jrue Holiday trade before Thursday's deadline is highly doubtful. This would obviously be a huge setback for the Pelicans, who need Davis and Holiday on the court to be competitive. New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday will be a free agent this summer, and, relatively recently , it looked like the front office had to figure out whether to trade him before Thursday's 3 p.m. With Cousins on board, Holiday has much more incentive to stay, as long as the front office is willing to offer a significant raise.
