Springfield mayor vetoes new City Council requirements for business tax breaks

SPRINGFIELD -- Mayor Domenic J. Sarno has vetoed an ordinance recently passed by the City Council to add new requirements for businesses that apply for and receive property tax incentives. The lead sponsor, Council President Orlando Ramos, said he will schedule a veto override vote as soon as possible. The ordinance states that the city should pursue revocation of the tax incentive in cases of non-compliance with the new requirements. Sarno said he conferred with City Solicitor Edward Pikula, who advised him that the enactment of the ordinance exposes the city to undue liability and damages. The TIF agreements involve taxpayer dollars and the council looked at the "public good" in adding requirements, he said.

Qatar Airways's new business class seats are too nice to do actual business in

As it stated in When I'm flying somewhere for work, I'm often willing to pay for an upgrade to business-class. Admittedly, on international flights, having the lay-flat bed that comes with a business class ticket is amazing. But I don't think I can get behind all the fancy that comes with a business class seat on Qatar Airways. I'd just be too frigging comfy to be productive:Loading ...That you can turn two of these business class suites together to make a double bed or combine four into a meeting room is absolutely insane. Honestly, I can't think of any business, with the exception of giving people the business, where I could afford or justify this level of luxury.
